The Start….

Lilith is a 7 year old Rottweiler that is 130lbs. She is our middle of 3 large dogs. (And the bossy one lol) on March 21, we found out she had Mast Cell Sarcoma, a tumor on her front left leg. It was huge and looked as if it would burst. Only hours after the vet called to confirm her diagnosis, the tumor indeed ruptured. She looked as if she was in no pain, but we had to use an E. Collar and constantly cleaning. We scheduled surgery for the 29th of March, so that gave me a week of cleaning this horrible tumor mess. As the days went on, no matter what I did to clean the open tumor, it smelled, festered and rotted. I felt helpless.

The day of the surgery was an emotion one. You see, we didn’t know if the cancer had spread, so she had to have several X-rays and a blood test to make sure there were no signs of cancer before she would be able to get the amputation.

All went well, tests were good, and that Tue the amputation happened  we were called with updates, and both relieved and scared.  The next day they told us she was ready to go home… We’re were shocked!!! Didn’t feel ready, and scrambled to get ready  then we picked her up.

When we got home we snuggled, we gave her oodles of attention, her dog mates were super happy, but respected her and let her alone.  I was super showed at how good she looked.  No bandage, she still had her shoulder and we didn’t expect it.

She ate well and drank super lots and we were told it was all good  she had no issues going out with some help, but wasn’t going pee at all.  I called the vet, she said it was normal… (Overprotective mama here lol)

at 3am she stood up on her own and wanted to go out  she was walking, just a little more then 48 hours post surgery, my Lilith was walking all on her own… I did quickly get a leash, and the towel but she went out and peed  I was a happy mom!! Actually woke my daughter up lol.

its amazing I’m the 4 days we have had her home, how well she is doing, how we have to actually keep her down.  She wants to be the same as she has always was but gets tired quick and can’t play with her fur siblings like normal yet …

I will continue to update with photos and posts.

  2. Hi and welcome to Tripawds.
I’m sorry your girl is dealing with mast cell. My little pug Maggie lost her left rear leg to a MCT back in 2006. Her prognosis was poor but she hopped happily through life for almost 4 years and did not pass from the mast cell. Maggie’s little sis Tani, a quad pug also had mast cell in the form of recurring cutaneous tumors.
Sounds like Lilith is doing well so far- I hope it continues!
